    Business theme - Navigation links

I've searched around both the forums and Google and have been unable to find an answer to this, so I apologise if this has already been covered.

In Actinic v 8.2, I have my new site set to the 'Business' theme, I know it's outdated, but I personally feel it does the site justice more than the other popular themes - Smart and Best Seller. My problem is with the navigation highlights.

I have, for example, on the homepage, set Button image to button_home.gif, and button rollover image to button_home_highlight.gif.

Now, this to me, should show a 'faded' 'Home' icon for this theme, then when hovered over should display the image as much brighter and crisper.

However, it doesn't appear to work - the image is always 'faded' both through offline preview, design view and live online too.

Is this a common problem and easily fixable? The site is Carlton Conservatories UK.

    Many thanks,
    Grant

Not sure about your problem Grant but I'd be very careful about not getting blasted by Google for keyword spamming on your homepage.

        Hello.

Yes I am well aware of this. The only reason it is there is for showing a rough idea of how the site will look with new content there. All bots are currently blocked via robots.txt, especially Googlebot Once the site is complete, I'll allow bots to crawl it, minus the spam keywords

        Thanks for your help.

The hover effect has been broken (that is a standard effect in that theme) ... check the layouts against the originals in the library (right click > compare ) and check that the layouts are using different versions of the image (check the images are also different using explorer).

For dummy text use the lorum ipsum ... far safer even with robots text in place.

Who's wrong? I didn't specifically say when the robots.txt was implemented

I had used the text, then blocked it on February 1st - seems Google beat me to it for this time round. Brand new, completely fresh content throughout the entire site is coming, plus continued link building to internal pages so hopefully Google won't throw me in the sandbox for too long.

Jont - many thanks for your help, I didn't even know the 'compare' feature existed, thanks for adding to my Actinic knowledge. I'll take a look into this just now.

              Thanks for now.

On second thoughts on this matter, does anyone have a site currently using the Actinic standard Business theme so I can take a look at their working source code?

                Thanks

That will not enlighten you as you will not see which variables / layouts are being used to compile the finished code.... comparing with the factory default in the library will show how the code should be working.

Thanks Jont. I did as you say and found the only green bar to be around the javascript lines for the themes, where i had added the javascript line for the contact us captcha unit (which coincidentally doesn't work either). I removed those lines and it still didn't work, despite the fact it was the same as 'factory settings'. So I installed the Actinic 8.5.2 trial from Actinic.co.uk on my desktop pc - and using the default pre-built site, I changed the theme in Design-Themes to 'Business', clicked Apply, then OK. And the highlights do not work in this either - despite the fact I haven't changed a single thing but the theme.

Is there anything else I need to change or is this just a bug in the latest trial version? Perhaps I'll try install with the 8.5.1 disk and see what happens.

                    Cheers

                      Hi Grant

I can confirm this is happening on my copy of the software as well, so it could well be a bug. I'm passing it to development though for confirmation. I'll keep you posted.

                      Regards

Thanks for confirming I'm not going crazy Kiran! I've used this software on two computers - my laptop and desktop - I can import my snapshot on both computers and still get the same problem - rollovers don't work.

So, I thought I'd try install 8.5.1 demo which I downloaded on my old laptop months ago - imported the snapshot and rollovers don't work.

Now, I was starting to think maybe it's something I've done to my snapshot that is causing rollover images not to 'highlight' - unfortunately not.

A fresh install on my desktop, exported the default snapshop after I changed it to the Business theme, imported that default site snapshot into my old 8.5.1 - and hey, still no rollovers.

For now, I am supporting the claim there must be a bug in the latest 8.5.2 software.

                        Thank you
