Drop-down permutation lists only work with a single attribute WHY?!

This drives me CRAZY!
actually, I might head to the wishlist after this stop but has anyone found a way to use dropdown permutations for 2 attributes?
I just can't get my head around why Actinic won't do it..someone give me an unarguable reason, please?

Add one component per each list of choices and it can be done .

ah well..I took a sledgehammer approach!

The actual price calculation was working regardless of the error message so I just removed the error message code from the list layout! LOL

aaaaaaaaaaaaand..the above solution worked GREAT offline...dynamic pricing calculated perfectly (although I do have to use the selectable permutations layout for the component so I still get my big dropdown)

except...you know it...it doesn't work to add to cart because, as Actinic told me (LOL) it doesn't work

So, dynamically it worked but in Actinic it didn't...and we're back to the initial question

WHY won't 'component layout with selectable permutations' work with more than one attribute?
It's not much of a 'permutation' with only one, is it?
