Components - too many attributes and choices!

    Hi all,

I'm working on some products that have lots of attributes and choices in these attributes....I have managed to get a template up here: http://www.itmustbegreen.co.uk/acatalog/Very_PC_1.html

However, it looks a bit unwieldy - any ideas how I can tidy this up or make it look a bit simpler? I was thinking of maybe having the options for the products on a separate page that the customer clicks through to.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated from any of you out there.

    Cheers,
    Dorian.

Set the main product as it is and then the options as products beneath with modified layouts and use a single add to cart button for the whole page with quantity set to 1.

As a note you have a layout issue around the "tabber" layout when using Firefox (looks like a float issue)

Thanks John - I'll try that. As for Firefox, yes, I knew I had a problem - but I thought I'd fixed it. However, it looks fine in my Firefox - what problem are you seeing?

Looks fine in FF3 to me. You got you're own special version Jonty?

I've tripple checked and it's fine - and I'm running FF3. However, I did originally ask Norman about this issue as it did look wrong in FF2 but it dissapeared when I upgraded to FF3. Odd that there's a glitch with FF2 as FF3 has only just come out hasn't it?

Anyway, if I 'set the main product as it is and then the options as products beneath with modified layouts and use a single add to cart button for the whole page with quantity set to 1' as Jont recommends, will this still allow me to have different prices as each option and choice will be priced differently.

Maybe I can try and find an Actinic site with PC's in it and see how they did it? Anyone know of one?

Ignore that last question Jont - I think I've got it now: http://www.itmustbegreen.co.uk/acatalog/Very_PC_1.html

All done now, though there were so many options I had to go with the drop down and not the radio buttons.

It's a shame I can't find a way of grouping the options into 3 or 4 main groups, to make them easier to look at.

You should be able to do this.

                      Here are the broad strokes:

Create a Variable called Group Title. Type text and allow empty. Make its Place of Setting Component. Now in the Component List layout, add a line to display Group Title.

In your product details, set Group Title only on the required components.

You can enhance this with a Condition this to add some code if Group Title is not empty.

                        Thanks Norman,

I got as far as "add a line to display Group Title" which I don't quite understand...what kind of line?

However, I ended up doing it another way by adding in a component and changing the html for it to make it look like a heading - http://www.itmustbegreen.co.uk/acata...enPC_Atom.html

Yes - no idea how to fix it as I don't know what's wrong with my code - it all looks fine. It works in FF3 just not in FF2?

I think it is coming from the ul declaration .. adding float:left on the fly in FF2 resolved the issue ... may be worth declaring a new ul.class and style that to preserve the other lists on the site
