editing product layout in Actinic database

    Hello,

I am currently updating and upgrading my site to use V8, and am working through the products, and specifying product layout for each one as I have started from scratch. Within each section, there are products with different layouts. I would like to use the Actinic database in my site 1 folder to specify the product layout, as I can quite quickly sort the products into the different layouts, but can't find the "product layout" field in any of the tables - can anyone help, please?

    Thanks

Decide which layout will be used the most and apply that as your site master setting, that will at least set the largest amount for you in one quick move as you don't want to be setting this manually on a per product basis for every single product. The layout is available in hierarchical imports to set if you prefer that method.

Within the database I expect the layout is tied into an ID, rather than the name which you might be looking for.

      Hello,

      thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, when I say I have started from scratch, I mean that I have re-designed the layouts from scratch. I have imported the products from the previous version, so the layouts currently showing are the old ones, and changing the site default does not affect them.

That will be because you need to reinstate the 'use parent' facility, it's a global way of controlling things on mass. You should move away from it as the last resort not the first one. Change it in site options, make sure the shop top is set to use parent and then make sure all sections and products are set to use parent. Once you've done that, then just change the products you want to use a different layout.

A quicker way to do that, if the whole store is currently manually set to something else and you need to change the majority, might be to change the ProductLayout selector's 'place of setting' to Site only (unticking product and section) and adjusting top level value accordingly and ensuring 'use parent' is ticked.

This will globally change the site with one (well, a few more but YKWIM!) click and then you can re-tick the section and product boxes as 'place of setting' so you can edit any that you may want using a different layout.

Not for the faint hearted but, if you need to make a global change that would otherwise involve doing every item singly, it's much quicker

but that's what snapshots are for.... give it a go... if it doesn't work you can restore and try again.

              Hi,

Thank you very much for your replies.

I have made the global change, following Tracey's method, and that has worked very well, but I still have a significant number of products with other layouts which I could amend in minutes if I could find them in the database.
