Top Bar - need to put text for SEO

Hi (clever) Folks

In the top bar where you normally put your banner/logo (which stays throughout the site) eg src="<actinic:variable name="CompanyLogoFileName" />" I want to put text

Why? Our company name "Cine to DVD" is our keyword/phrase
I think this is a great opportunity (SEO) to type the word "Cine to DVD" in a large font (to look like a logo) instead of having a logo which can't be read by google.

Is this possible. I have spent 3 hours looking thru forum and manual but can't see how. It's either very difficult or I'm a bit thick !

not a good idea IMO as it will be applied to every page and dilute your ability to optimize other pages. For the banner just add an apt tag to the image with your business name - google will see this

2nd - would you have time to tell me why it will "dilute ability to optimise other pages?"

I hope I havn't misled. meaning the words CINE TO DVD whether its a fancy logo or actualy TEXT I can't understand what prob this would cause? (not that I'm doubting you, Ive read loads of your posts!)

I actually do WANT it on every page

Then simply edit your overall layout and replace the fragment

<actinic:variable name="CompanyLogoImage" />

with


Cine to DVD

or alternatively

<h1>Cine to DVD</h1>


You could also get the same result by putting the above text into layout Standard Company Logo Image, replacing everything that is there.

I'm not an SEO specialist so cannot comment on whether this is a good or bad thing to do.

Kate if you spread your keyword phrase across all pages, then you would end up with it diluted across numerous pages instead of highly concentrated on just a few pages. If you search for that phrase as a 'searcher' do you want to be taken to a page specifically about that phrase or would you like to be taken to one of a number of pages and use pot luck (if indeed they did get ranked)? It's all about focus.

If SEO is your key here, then aim for just a few pages towards that phrase, not the masses. Likewise if SEO if the key here, do not use a <H1> under any circumstances for this, you only get one per page and they want to be different.

If your company name is Cine to DVD, then that can be the alt attribute for the logo image.

Kate. Sit down and devise a plan as things like this can have an adverse effect on your site. Actinic is very good at seo out the box so I advise you work with it rather than hacking code to do thing that you think will work. As lee says h1 tags are commonly used to try and spam SERPS so they need to be used with care or you will be on the bottom of google

Even though Norman has given me the method (thanks) I heed your advice. Guess I thought I was clever with that method but I can't be the first idiot to think i could increase my odds

any clever idea you may come up with will have been tried before and penalized by google so don't even try. Play by the rules and you will succeed.

There are some pretty ingenious things being do e at the moment eg paying thousands of chinese cyclists to visit Internet cafes all day typing keywords and clicking on sites to create keyword traffic and increase rankings so by comparison your attempt is pretty low level spam

You'd need to use British cyclists, no sod seems to be able to catch them.

There was a guy on the forum last year suggesting that we all drive up and down the country clicking on eachothers websites to get the same effect.

Lee - you would never get a road cyclis into an interent cafe - what you need are cyclists like me who spend most of the time in Cafe Nero
