Menu to show active subsections only - please help

I am upgrading the site at www.qpjewellers.com to improve the menus. Currently the site contains a large number of sections and subsections, but the menu on the left does not open up to show any of these sections, thus making it very hard to navigate, especially when the potential customer lands on a page anywhere other than the home page. The only sections viewable in the menu are the top level sections.

The advanced guide shows quite a few methods to show all the subsections by default, but there are far too many on this site to display all at once. I need to know how to only show the subsections of the section currently being viewed. The site is using the "Technical" theme, which does not use Javascript for the menus. It must continue to use this theme, but if introducing a Javascript menu is the only option then that's fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Matt,

You'll be pleased to hear Normal Rouxel has done all the hard work for you with his Actinic Plugins - in particular the Collapso menu, which is very easy to integrate.

This highlights the active Top Level Section, as well as all subsequent active Sub-Sections - seems the perfect solution to your problem.

    Cheers,
    Grant

I'm a relative Actinic newb and managed to get Gabe's php nav working on my site (http://www.onlyzebra.com). Feel free to have a play around on there to see if it does what you want.

        Gabe's thread here.
Need a barcode label or card printer? Look no further than OnlyZebra.

Thinking about barcode scanning and whether it could improve your business' efficiency? We can offer a range of products from numerous manufacturers. OnlyAML, OnlyIntermec, OnlyLXE, OnlyOpticon & OnlyPsion or OnlyRugged, the one stop shop for all your needs.

            Hi Matt

I have used both Gabes system and Normans Collapso. If you want something that includes collapsing menus actually live on the page then you will need to be good with css and possibly incorporate a javascript yourself if you use Gabes system. If you want something that you can install and use in minutes then pay the money and use Normans Collapso.

I produced a similar effect to collapso by incorporating fsmenu (javascript) from twinHelix.com into Gabes menu and added some css using the default theme for V9.
