    fading images

i need to create a set of 8 images that fade from dark to light (shades of grey)

my first image is 100 x100 px with a bg of #999999.

my last image has bg #d4d4d4

is there a way of calculating what the hex value needs to be of the interim 6 blocks so they fade by equal values?

I'd normally attack it the other way round, start with your base colour on a palette with a white layer underneath and then use reducing levels of transparency on the colored layer. 1st is 100%, 2nd is 90%, 3rd is 80%, last one ends up at 30%. That's a better of way of getting a reducing uniform palette IMO.

      i'd use photoshop for this.

create a simple animation, and have your fade done with layer transparency.

then on each distinct frame, use the dropper tool to grab the colour.

cant you do it dynamically, with some jquery?

Create a rectangle with a dimension a multiple of 6 and fill with a gradient with your start and end colours, set the guides at the intervals and sample with the eye dropper at the guide positions
