    section using wrong layout

I think I have a problem where a section is using the layout of the sub sections and it isn't recognising it's own layout setting, could this be correct?

    it could be.

have you checked all the layouts you've assigned to the sections/subsections?
and cleared thecache on your pc

Yep, if I change the 'section link layout' field within the section details it doesn't affect the look... if I change the 'section link layout' field within one of the subsections of this section it seems to propogate it back up to the section... do you know if this is a known bug?

It's not a bug, it's a misunderstanding on your behalf. When you change the look of a section link layout, then that is for that section you are actually inside. To see that layout however, you need to be one level up, see the logic? You can't click on a section, change its layout and expect to see the change as you are already 'inside' that section. Move up a level and then you will see it.

Arha... thanks very much! I thought I had tried this, but obviously left the 'use parent' in there...

This is a passage of rites ... everybody gets confused with this concept when first using Actinic.

Indeed Jonty, even worse if you've been around for some time as V7 never did this IIRC and was setup as people think it works nowadays.

Its a programmers logic versus a users logic. It makes sense but not really IYSWIM

If only I were new... amazing I've gone for so long without having to need to have different section layouts, or done it without thinking by default! Thanks...

Agreed Jonty, it makes sense but doesn't. What's missing is having use site master as well as use parent. Use parent is really powerful, so many times i see it not used though, people don't get it and do these things on a per section basis which is an admin and time nightmare.
