Featured Products fragment on home page

I've seen this on a few people's sites and I'm wondering if the way of doing it is to create a fragment on the home page which contains an HTML table with links to the product anchors?

Is there are cleverer way of doing it? I can't see any marketing pages that would do the same thing (although, to be fair, I am still stumbling around a bit!).

    TIA

You could creat a new fragment layout and select which products you want to display in there, but that would need a good undestanding of the software.

Have you explored the Marketing lifts?

I do have those but I assumed they were auto generated. I'm after something like the New Products ml, but where I can choose which products to put in it, e.g. I'd like to put a selection of Autumn or Halloween patterns in for now, then change them to Christmas ones in November.

I can't say I have a good understanding of the software just yet LOL

They can be automatic, or you can specify which products you have there.

If you'd like to keep them running as they are, then perhaps fragments are the way forward. You could have them linling to specific products, or you could great a nice simple banner thant links to a section:

          http://www.vpiaonline.co.uk/

I chose type of fragment for this site so that it didn't push all the home page content below the fold (the point from which people have to scroll to see more)

EDIT: My client simply creates an image to a set dimension then selects the section to link to and enters some text.

She'll be replacing this with a Christmas banner shortly.

You can also do this by using different fragment layouts coded to do a specific task (show a specific image or text only).. for example

            Party Connection
            Barrels & Bottles

Everything is done using fragments on the home pages.

webD, AH HA!!! I found how you can manually select items in the list.

For future reference, it was on page 34 of the v8 (though I'm using v9) starter guide:

If you go to the grid at the bottom of 'Marketing | Best Sellers' or
'Marketing | New Products Listing' you can click on any item in the list
and use the drop-down list to manually change it to a different item.

Using this method it is possible to manually configure the list if there
certain products you want to promote, or certain products you don't
want to promote. You can also click the 'Lock' checkbox to fix that
product in the list and let all the other products auto-generate around it.

I don't think the "best sellers" will be of much use to my customers as there are no items that sell better than any others, so was hoping to reuse it for featured products and I think this will do it for me.

jont, that looks cool and will be ideal for my "shop by category" concept I want to put in place, e.g. Christmas, Easter, Summer, etc
