Selective content based on customer group

Is it possible to show/hide specific content based on a specific user or customer group being logged in to the site? I know i can use a conditional statement to do this based on everyone being logged in, but it has to be more specific, so different banners can be shown to different groups.

You can limit visibility of products to customer groups - see attached image

Article in the KB on this too, serving up exclusive content to certain groups, i'd have thought that could be stretched to logos etc.
