where best to locate social buttons & best practice

Hi,

I'd love to hear about how people are getting on with implementing social share buttons (especially facebook, twitter & google plus) on their sites. Where are you putting the buttons? At the top of the site, left/right hand columns, on specific product pages?

Anyone got any experience of the effectiveness of facebook buttons vs light boxes etc.
