Simple Mobile / Smart Phone Theme

    A question for the designers

    1) Is anyone interested in creating a simply mobile / smart phone template

    2) does anyone know or is it possible to intergrate this with a current actinic store or will this mean running two seperate sites. Its not a big issue as i have business plus, it just means switching between sites to download orders.

If the route is to have two seperate sites then i need the smart bit in the normal site that recognises a smart phone browser and redirects to the mobile version. I am thinking of this being a subdomain something like mobile.cabp.co.uk

    Cheers

    Mobile and Actinic

Oh now there's a can of worms... I would say you would be better with a separate site on a sub-domain, and a site optimised for mobile...the server side Perl/PHP and whatever should be OK but JS is patchy on mobiles, unless you are just looking at Android/iPhone/iPad.
The page layout needs to be flexible and work between 320-480 (ish) px to accommodate the different screen sizes.
What you would do as far as checkout I don't know- the though form filling on a mobile to buy something brings me out in a cold sweat...
Maybe just email the product reference to an email address and do an online purchase from a desktop/notepad later?
As for the auto re-direct that's quite a subject too. There is a website about this http://wurfl.sourceforge.net/, this gives loads of info and requires some good Java/PHP/.NET programming know how.

take a good look at http://www.sencha.com
      in particular senchaTouch
this classy framework does many of the javascript clever bits to provide touchy-feely bits that emulates apple.

take a quick read of http://www.useit.com/alertbox/mobile-ux-guidelines.html from the great Jakob Nielsen

there is also http://www.useit.com/alertbox /mobile-usability.html again Jacobs work

finally, although not directly related, he talks about different sizes of the Kindle and what sizes (of buttons) and "standards" work best on readers - the principles still apply to ipads, phones etc
      try this one http://www.useit.com/alertbox/kindle...usability.html

ok food for thought, thanks for the info / feedback

i may have to revist this later in the year, not sure i am going have the time to commit at this moment i already have a large project on the go and if im honest i might not need to spend the time on actinic if this project goes well.

        Thanks Again
