    Section Name imports

    Hi,
Im ready to go live with my site except I have come across a problem which is killing me. I am having problems importing the Page Titles, Meta Desc and Meta Keywords with the stock.

The file is created in Excel, then changed to the Hier type using the flat file converter and imported as a csv (I hate this structure by the way)

I am trying to import the information in 1 go as I have over 4000 files and it is not feesable to do this manualy.
My sections are 3 deep then the product
Alcohol > Wine > Premium Wine>750ml Red Wine from Chile

My problem is that I can import the page title/meta description and meta keywords in to the last level (Premium Wine in the example) but cannot get it to import into the top 2 levels, Alcohol or Wine. I have searched and searched and I am getting no where. I have been messing around with pipe symbols etc and I am having no luck. I am making changes to my file, rebuilding it and then reimporting it and getting nowhere. AGHHHHH

I appreciate any help you can give me

    Thanks

The solution is to get to grips with the hierarchical import file structure. You do not need all the fields to be able to import just a few fields. You just need the first two columns or so as well as the ones you want to change.

Try exporting your catalog and then adding a temporary column on the left. In that column add a running number to the bottom of the file.

You can now sift and sort in excel and reorder later by sorting on the temporary column. I split the file into products and sections so I can trim fields without affecting other product lines for example then combine again afterwards.

Before importing again delete the column.

Backup well before importing and always compact frequently.

    Hope that helps.

Yea that will work but I was hoping not to have to import than export, make changes in excel then reimport. It just seems to be a mess of a way to do it and to introduce more chance of errors and file corruptions.

      Thanks for your help.
