Updating stock in linked file

Ok,
Im looking at using a linked excel file and have linked it to my Site. Ok I have trouble with this as it cannot do sections, this should be basic as the sections are part of the flat file import but when using external files it cant map to sections..

If I change a product in my excel file, just say delete it, its still on the site, why cannot it be automatically deleted. If I add a new product to the database it doesnt add it to the other files it puts it in a different section and wants me to manually put it to its relevant place.

Im looking at using this as I have alot of updates to do on my site with products and its impossible to do it manually, is there a way to get it done automatically?

Hi Lumico,

Best you can to do take a product off your website via external linking is to set the flag 'can be ordered online' or set the stock level to a value below the stock suspend level.

You also should probably do a two stage thing, use a flat file to create / remove products and then use the external linking to update - however if you don't need real time changes over several sites then I would recommend using the flat file completely for updates as I believe that external linking can slow your site down if you have a lot of products linked.
