How to display order number before PayPal checkout ?

When a customer uses Paypal standard to checkout, actinic takes him to the Paypal page passing the order number e.g. YK25CQ1000009. The Paypal page also displays the order number, the total price and quantity is always 1. Usually when you checkout with Paypal in websites that do not use actinic, the customer sees an itemised summary of items purchased.

As passing only the order number total due to pay, is there a way of displaying the order number before the customer leaves actinic for the Paypal page during checkout ?

For example what I would like to display on the last checkout page is: "Please click on the PayPal logo to complete your purchase. Your order number is YK25CQ1000009".

I guess this way, the customer is reassured that the long number on the paypal page is not an error but the order number.

I suppose you could try putting the order number variable into the psp bounce page.

it depends at what point the order is actually allocated it's number, doesn't it?
ie...does it get allocated when the browsers forwards FROM the psp bounce page (which is the point at which a "catalog order received" email is generated) or does it get allocated BEFORE the psp bounce page (which it would need to be in order to display it here)

      I'm sure someone will know

the order number has been alocated and the order sent to actinic prior to the psps bounce - that why you get orders without payments.
