Warning - PayPal Pro and N Transactions

We have been using PayPal Pro for a while now but have recently started to have a major problem. I first noticed the problem when the PayPal balance didn't match Actinic's reported sales figures.

Occasionally (there is no pattern) an order is approved on Actinic but no money is ever placed into our PayPal account.

Upon closer inspection there appears to be a number of transactions that are described as 'N' transactions (the rest are called 'sale' or 'credit'). The response message in PayPal manager is 'approved', however, the authorisation code and other details are missing from the transaction summary. It seems that although PayPal is approving the order with Actinic it is not charging the customer.

WARNING: Unless you are prepared to check every single order against PayPal manager to see if it 'really' has been approved, then you may lose money by shipping orders listed as approved on Actinic.

We are having to cancel the orders and ask the customer to re-order.

Hopefully a patch will be released very soon to address this.

Has anyone else had these mysterious N transactions with PayPal?

Oh my, it's getting worse not better. Some extensive posts with problems and answers on the forum already about PPP, this is a new one to me. It's a good job you can save £200 as stated on here, you need to by the looks of it, to try and break even if you use it.

      Hi there

Cant say ive come across this issue with Pay Pal Pro before, to look into it further, ive passed this onto the development team to take a look into - I will need your site snapshot to investigate the issue, if you could send it to the email address at the bottom of this page, and put it to my attention please.

Many thanks. Just for everyone else's interest - I have sent copies of my OCCPaypalTemplate.pl and PostPayPal.fil files to the team to have a look at.

I look forward to the feedback.

Update: problem still exists. After being told to contact PayPal to get it sorted they thought it might have something to do with Stock Monitoring (which I don't use) and to get back in touch with Actininc.

I can see this going round in circles for some time...

After getting no where all day PayPal have now offered the following: "I believe the best course of action currently is to have Actinic review the request the are sending to PayPal on your behalf and the response they receive. They will need to either remove this parameter (RequestID) or ensure that they do not duplicate the numbers."

Can someone do that? (I can't)

Get back to Actinic support with the original Support ticket ID, and pester them to death. Actinic can have a tendency with a difficult issue to drop it unless they are badgered

Also keep us posted here - I've been speaking to a client today who wanted to use PPP as their PSP - I am very reluctant to suggest they use it.

Have you heard back from support on this one as yet? Please do let me know, drop me a mail and I can chase this up for you.

                      Kind regards,

Nothing from support yet, although it has been a weekend.

Quite a quiet weekend so only lost £271.05 through N transactions...

                          Graham,

We have been in touch with PayPal regarding this issue, the responses you have had so far from PayPal are most probably standard responses from the support desk as they are not aware that it is actually a PayPal issue and not one from our side. You were supposed to be contacted by PayPal on the 28th.

I have posted this back to development so that they can get in touch with our point of contact in PayPal and chase this up for you.

                          Kind regards,
                          Bruce King

                            Bruce,

Thanks, just had PayPal on the phone - hopefully they'll have something for me by the end of the day.
