    Multiple sites using PROTX

I thought this might be useful to those using PROTX- I run several sites, one of which uses PROTX. I called them today to check on costs to set up my other sites, as a comparison to other PSPs, and they said that they will accept up to three sites using one merchant number. They mentioned that I should check that our bank is happy (which they are) and it's just a case of using the same merchant number and secret key with each site.

For me this means that the monthly invoice is now split over three income streams- or put another way I don't have to pay again for the new sites to be PSP compliant.

The only downside is that all the payment pages show the same logo etc- I'm going to have to make it very clear that all sites use trading names to avoid carts being abandoned at checkout.

For anyone running multiple sites, it may be worth checking with your PSP whether you can do a similar thing, rather than having several accounts and merchant numbers with the added expense this brings.

This is also possible with Worldpay - the criteria seems to be similar products across the sites.

We have done this in the past - but it has resulted in a number of charge backs as people have not recognised the charge on their CC statement when it arrives severa lweeks later

I have to admit I've not jumped in and changed the sites yet- I guess one needs to weigh up the benefit of cost saving against potential lost business/chargeback hassle. For new sites, where turnover is small, it may not be too much of an issue, but I think that certainly as the sites grow it will be more important- if for nothing else but the site branding on the PSP page.

You can always remove the customer confusion by making it clear on all sites that they are part of the 'group'. Then they would see the 'group' name on the statement.

But as mentioned, there is always the risk of some confusion when you buy from store A but you see store b on the CC statement. If not using a group name then ensure you add something like..

"this transaction will show on your statement as xxxxx" etc.

We did all of this - but you still get chargebacks people have short memories - they see the credit card statement and do not necessarily recognise the name even if you have plastered it all over the receipt and emails

I only raise it as something to aware of, if the business has a smallish turnover it is a way to keep costs down whilst building trade.
