    PayPal Express and v8.5.3

    Hi,

We use PROTX as our main PSP and have no problems but we also want to give customers the option of using PayPal Express.

If I setup a new Payment Method of “PayPal Website Payments” I get the PayPal option added to the list of Payment Methods on Checkout Page 2 which then sends customers to PayPal to enter their details but this is not what should happen.

What I want to happen is that the customer gets a PayPal checkout button when they view the shopping basket, so if paying with PayPal they can skip the Actinic checkout and go straight to PayPal. Looking at the code in Actinic this only seems to work if you are using “PayPal Website Payments Pro”, which I don’t want to do I am quite happy using PROTX I just want to accept PayPal and allow customers to skip the Actinic checkout.

    So:
    • Can I use true PayPal Express without using PayPal Website Payments Pro in v8.5.3 ?

    • If I have to use PayPal Pro can the non-express part be disabled to avoid the need for a SSL certificate and non PCI-DSS compliance ?

    Thanks

No, Paypal Express wasn't added in as separate module until v9

    Unfortunately not, http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=30200 states:

You are required to use Direct Payment and Express Checkout together as part of the Website Payments Pro solution.
Your only option if you want to use Paypal Express on it's own would be to upgrade to v9.

I had this very issue early last year - wanted to use Paypal Website Payments Pro without using Express. We already have a Paypal account manager (through other sales outlets) and so, I gave her a call and within 5 minutes I had the authorisation to use Website Payments without using the Express side of things. Main reason was due to the fees involved, and how I only wanted Paypal as a 'back up' to Protx should Protx fail, Paypal Express is, as expected, in the consumers face.
