    Better to be safe than sorry, sure, but I had a US company I placed an order with ring me to "check" my card number and details. I refused to give them the details, thankfully, because they turned out to be fraudsters. We never got the product despite them taking the money quite happily.

    Your customer was completely correct to not give you their card number again and to assume fraudulent behaviour on their part for just trying to protect themselves is bizarre at best.
