PayPal Standard Payments

I've been happily using PayPal standard payments for over a year now but just this morning when logged into my PayPal account I noticed two payments come in.

Quickly switched to Actinic to download orders and the two PayPal orders which I have just seen clear my account are downloaded into the 'Pending Payment Service Provider' tab section.

So I give it a few minutes and hit the 'Retrieve Orders' button thinking that the payment confirmation would of been received by now but nothing.

Has anyone else experienced this? Don't really relish having to double check all PayPal orders received.

I have had this with the last two Paypal orders also.

One came in at 00:38am but eventually the payment was downloaded into Actinic at around 9:30am.

The second payment arrived around 40 minutes ago and is still stuck in psp-pending.

From what I gather this will happen if customers don't return back to your site after completing the PayPal payment.

You should always check your pending payments, some sellers even follow up orders that end up in there with an email to ask if there had been a problem and convert it into another sale.

You could set up a custom email template and fire it out to any orders that land in there without payment.

I don't think this is the case, I have received hundreds of paypal payments and almost never go into the pending tab and since midnight last nught they all do. It would also not explain why 9 hours later Actinic managed to download the payment.

This is something I do with all non completed payments as is very successful turning around 65-80% into completed sales, although of no use in this case as the paypal payment is in my paypal account.

Okay, sorry that was no use to you Darren. Sounds like there's some delay then. If it's affected two of ou recently then it sounds like it will be at PayPals end.

If I get a change and quiz my clients to see there experiencing the same issue.

I have just analysed the site log files and can confirm that the last paypal customer whose order is in psp-pending did return to the site after completing payment so is definitely not related to the usual issue of not visiting the receipt page.

Payment now received for the second payment (1hr 30 mins after payment made)

EDIT: By checking the times of the paypal email and and actinic payment received notification for the first payment I see that the delay was 1hr 38 minutes, so it would appear that for me a delay of around 1 1/2hours is being experienced for the paypal callback.

Some 3 hours later, payment confirmation has come through.

Because I had manually entered payment, the two orders are now listed as 'Excessive Payment' Recieved. Easily sorted.

So it would seem that there are some problems with PayPal at the moment?

this is quite common with paypal, i dont even bother these days sometimes its almost instant other times its hours until it comes through IME

Is there any way to make/encourage customers to return to the store? Failing to do so does not send them an order receipt.
