PayPal address verification (or lack of) again.

Apologies for bringing this up again. I've looked at other threads on this but they go back a way and I'm wondering if there was any, more recent, definite answer.

Basically, someone paying with standard PayPal from our Actinic store is not asked to choose/or enter a delivery address as part of the payment process. Therefore we do not get an address with the PayPal payment confirmation, cannot verify the address with the one they've entered in the store and we are not eligible for payment protection. A rubbish situation, I'm sure you agree.

Is there any way to force the customer to have to choose or enter their address as part of the PayPal payment process? Or is this something I have to upgrade to something like PayPal Pro to do?

Alternatively, I read of editing the OCCPayPalTemplate.pl to sort of force the issue. Is this really the only way of sorting this out?

Again, apologies for bring this up again. I've tried contacting PayPal but, to be honest, although they do get back to, you they've been absolutely useless in actually understanding what I'm talking about.

I've not heard or read of any new solutions to the problem, so what you've read are the only probable solutions at the moment. Please don't use Paypal Pro, it smells of wee and pooh and has no friends.

Get yourself a proper PSP, try Actinic Payments for example.

Thanks for that. We do use Sage Pay for standard credit card payments but it's helpful (especially for the sort of customers we have) to offer PayPal as well.

SagePay and PayPal

Hello. I had the same problem with PayPal, resulting in not getting seller protection, so I had customers raising disputes on PayPal saying that they had not received goods when I had proof of delivery, PayPal automatically debiting me while dispute in process, and then seeing in my customer's favour as I did not have protection.

I sorted the problem by adding PayPal to my SagePay options, so all customers now go via SagePay. For those choosing PayPal on SagePay I now receive seller protection from PayPal, with the addresses checked. Though this costs us two fees, I have decided it is worth it.

The problem I have with my tests of Paypal Standard is that I DO enter an address at paypal checkout, but the address is not kept.

So, when I view the order, I only have a telephone number and email address, but I did enter an address when checking out in Paypal.

Note, I have the address fields in Actinic switched off. Is that wrong?

I found this in another thread:

Commenting out the line containing "no_shipping" in OCCPayPalTemplate.pl (as previously discussed elsewhere) will allow the customer to select an address within Paypal enabling the seller protection.

But it can cause confusion if the customer selects a different delivery address - only Catalog v8 and Paypal Pro pass it back to Actinic.

But can't find anything about no_shipping in the that .pl script. Can anyone advise?

Oh, and this should really be added to the Paypal setup information as well as which actinic fields should be switched off (the card numbers) and left on (the address fields)...

You shouldn't be paying a fee to Sage Pay AND Paypal if you have this set up - I also have it set up and only one fee is charged - regardless if you use Sage Pay (eg, for Visa payment) or Paypal. Contact your account manager if you're being charged twice

Double Fees

Hello. I am definately being charged a fixed fee per transaction going through SagePay, which was how the account was set up, including the PayPal transactions, and I am being charged a percentage fee by PayPal for these same transactions. I also pay a fee to my bank for the SagePay transactions, but I don't think this includes for the PayPal transactions. Thus every payment carries two fees, one by SagePay and one by the bank/PayPal. The PayPal fees are much higher than the bank's fees, but luckily only about a quarter to a third of customers pay by PayPal.

What Sage Pay account do you have?

Your bank will charge you on payments taken by SagePay, typically around 1%.

Paypal should take a % fee depending on your sales volume through Paypal, but the bank won't charge you any further fee.

Sage Pay shouldn't be taking any fee if the payment is processed through Paypal.

Or at least they don't with our account.

SagePay Charges for All

Hello again. With our account with SagePay, SagePay charge a fixed fee for each and all transactions, including the PayPal ones. The terms of the account say a fee for each transaction, so I don't think we can argue that. HSBC charge us a percentage, as you say, for each non-PayPal transaction through SagePay, and PayPal charge us a percentage for each PayPal transaction. So every transaction through SagePay gets two charges, one from SagePay and the other from HSBC or PayPal.

I hadn't considered adding PayPal to the Sage Pay process (in fact I didn't even know you could do it). The whole Sage Pay charging you a fee on top of the PayPal fees business is a little vage on their site but it does look like it's a standard card transaction fee added to the % + 20p PayPal charge. I guess it's swings and roundabouts. We haven't had anyone try it on in the way you mention Sarah but I imagine it's only a matter of time and I'd really like the peace of mind of the seller protection.
