    Protecting Cart Pages with SSL

    Hello,

I've just set up a site and wondered about protecting the shopping cart pages.

I use Sagepay for card payments and know all card details are taken on sagepay servers but wondered how I protect the cart pages until customer is transferred to sagepay servers as customers enter sensitive data like address, name etc.

My host has offered me my own SSL certificate, Do I need it and is it hard to set up with actinic.

    Any help would be appreciated
    Regards

It's not usually difficult to setup but whether you need or not is debatable - some say yes others say no. The only way you will know for sure is if you try it out and monitor dropouts at the checkout. If the page load is fast then it should do no harm.

      Ssl

      Hello,

      Thanks for the quick response.

I think I would rather be safe than sorry.

Speaking of checkout drop outs is there way of shortening the checkout process?
It seems so unnecessarily drawn out and look like could be condensed a page or so.

v10 will have a shorter checkout and there are things you can do in the meantime. Have a quick search, there's plenty of info about it.

i have run many tests using ssl in checkout against no ssl and as yet have never found any improvemnets in conversions.

speak to your isp they can probably give you a dedicated ip for your domain for around £20 a year and the cost of a basic ssl will be around £50

if you dont know how to generate signing requests and install ssl's then best get your isp to do it for you

seriously i would spend the money elsewere
