Paypal slowing checkout

I am in the process of setting up a store and want to use Paypal Website Payments as a payment option.

Whenever I set this up, pressing the checkout button on the store takes 20-30 seconds to open the checkout page.

If I remove the paypal payment option, and use the default setting of "credit card details captured ......" and/or "credit card details sent later", clicking the checkout button, causes the checkout page to open instantly.

If I do wait the 20-30 seconds for each page update, I do eventually get to the paypal site and payment is processed.

The entire site is hosted on a secure SSL server.

Any suggestions?

dont host the entire site on a ssl, it will be slower than a site not using ssl

OK, going to try to host on our regular site.
