HSBC Secure ePayments and PayPal Standard

We've got both paypal standard and HSBC Secure ePayments on our website.

What I'd like to achieve is when the customer clicks on "Checkout", I want him/her to have the option to either click on the PayPal logo and go directly to paypal or click "Next" and then fill all necessary details before entering credit/debit card info on the HSBC server.

At the moment, the customer goes through numerous of unnecessary pages before having a drop down menu with
    1. HSBC Secure ePayments
    2. PayPal

Any help of doing that ?

I have seen it done if you have PayPal Pro where you first have the paypal log that takes you direct to PayPal or click Next to enter delivery and billing info before paying via credit/debit card.

    Thanks.

It sounds like you use Paypal Website payments, take a look at Paypal Express.

paypal express makes me wonder about something.

If you pass the customer straight over to paypal for checkout rather than getting them to complete the actinic checkout, then do you still get the order and address details in Actinic as normal?

I wouldn't have thought so, unless something had been added to allow the order details to be fed back into Actinic at the end.

And if it did, wouldn't this imply we could build our own checkout process and just feed the details back into Actinic?

Why do HSBC charge a £200 set up fee for their payment option?
This sounds rediculous and is putting me off changing to this option.
Thanks in advance for any remarks

I've never heard that they do, all they stipulate is you have to bank with them AFAIK. Are you a newish business or a bit dodgy ?

est 100+ years if thats any good, we bank with HSBC and I was looking at the "apply online" tab in our internet banking, looked at the payment gateway option and it was the usual £20 a month and £200 set up fee. I'll have to ask our accounts manager.
Thanks in advance for any remarks

You'll get a better deal if you speak direct i'd imagine, particularly with a history that long, i'd not expect to pay a setup fee, that would really surprise me. If you specify the cart you are using, i don't think they have to do much, just give you 2 numbers basically which you input into actinic.

I think their standard setup fees are £200.

If you're serious about using HSBC consider joining the British Shops and Store Association (BSSA). They have negotiated members rates with HSBC that might include a reduced setup fee.

                See http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=17545

You might need to call them to get the details.

I did have to pay £200 setup fee unfortunately.

The problem is since I've changed to HSBC Secure ePayments last week we didn't have a single order as you go through countless pages of checkout and in the end it asks you to register a new password for the 3D secure if you haven't already.

I swapped it back to PayPal Pro for now and waiting until the 3D secure is mandatory for all cards as still most credit cards go through with PP Pro but not Maestro ones.

I'm wondering if anyone out there has made a module/extension for actinic so that the customer stays on the website for HSBC secure ePayments rather than having to go to HSBC secure servers.

I've been sent the integration guide but I'd rather pay someone if there is a module to do that.
I've got SSL on our website and prepare to pay if someone has developed such an extension.

I saw a mention that Actinic are looking at something like this using an Iframe. I believe it's as part of a smoother checkout process for V10.

                      Hi Guys,

                      Thought I'd add to this.

                      Setup fee's
The setup fee is most likely for your merchant numbers so you can take credit card's online or CNP through the PSP's virtual terminal. To use any PSP you will need these MID's.

                      3D secure
Regarding 3D secure, aka verified by Visa, I believe you can turn this option off and therefore not ask the customer to supply their password or register for one. I'm not sure what the position is with HSBC E-payments, but Actinic Payments allows you to turn off 3D secure (except for Maestro - as it is compulsory).

HSBC doesn't let you switch the 3D secure option off. I've just been on the phone with them.

I've gone pack to PP Pro and waiting until more customers becoming familiar with the 3D secure option and then I will fully integrate HSBC...just paying £20 a month for nothing at the moment for the HSBC subscription ! If I cancel, I loose the £200 I've paid upfront...

We've been with HSBC E payments for about 6 years. It works fine for us, despite the long winded checkout. Whichever PSP you use with Actinic, currently your customers are going to have to leave your site.
As far as Verified by Visa etc are concerned, the same applies. If your customers don't want to sign up for their banks' own schemes, then sooner or later they'll find they can't shop anywhere on the web. Except Paypal.

When we put HSBC up last weekend we had no single sale on the website.
Then we went back to PayPal Pro and we started having 4 orders a day as usual.

It's true, sooner or later most people will need to have the 3D Secure code to complete a purchase. However, as a lot of our customers work on an impulse purchase, we are not prepare to become the guinea pigs of the credit card industry educating the world about 3D Secure in the expenses of our company.

If people do not even bother completing checkout because of the long process then it's probably more wise to stick to what we have now and when the majority of customers are aware of the system we then move back to HSBC.

I'm waiting though for Actinic to integrate HSBC Secure Payments with iFrame as someone else suggested above so that customers don't leave your site.
