    Faulty PSP’s

Sage pay has been down since this morning for Lloyds and Halifax customers and we are loosing sales.

There was also a fault yesterday where we couldn’t perform refunds due to ‘technical reasons’. I can’t believe that companies like this who perform a critical service don’t have a contingency.

I tested Actinic payments before sagepay and had issues with that not working as it should. So I went with Sageay and now that’s down!

What do you guys do? Do you run 2 Psp’s so when one goes down you can use the other?

Many people use Paypal as a backup.

Always have 2 in place and maybe if your site is big enough a 3rd backup solution which can be switched on as and when you need. Not only for backup purposes but also giving customers a choice.

Fault was caused by a fire at a BT building in Paddington. It's affecting more that just SagePay's transactions with Lloyds and HBOS.

One of those problems that arise that remind us how vulnerable the infrastructure we all so crucially rely on actually is!

Alternate PSP as a backup is always a good idea though. PayPal can be good as you only pay per transaction i.e. no cost to keep in the "background"

The infrastructure of this country runs permanently on the edge of chaos. If an ant farts in the wrong direction, this country can be brought to its knees. It's amazing how smooth things actually run most of the time.

Amazing that they don't have more than one physical location running in tandem.

Thats why we have our sites spread over three ISP's One of which is dedicated at least hopefully some sites will keep going

Though to be fair, Sagepay has got the disaster data centre up and running, I don't know how quickly but we never noticed any problems

                  PSP's

It's a good idea (I think essential) to have a backup system, we have PayPal as a fallback if Sagepay falls over.

                    Internet and Sage pay problems.

The ORIGINAL idea behind the internet (as I remember) was a comms system that would withstand some of the links being destroyed or damaged in time of war (the US military's ARPANET idea). If a link went out the data packets were just re-routed around it, hence the web-like network. Seems the idea wasn't up to large scale communications if a single damaged exchange in London can cause havoc??

Yes but the internet did stay up and continued to work,

To me it looks like sloppy work by Lloyds etc in not having good enough backup plans

Very true Chris, the web did stay up and running, you would thing PSP's and big multinational banks would have contingency plans? or is that too much to expect?
