in which case, its an actinic script that is failing. my guess from a 500 error is that a service the script calls is failing.

can Actinic confirm this is the area they are looking at?

I Just received an email from Paypal stating the following:

      Dear ..............,

Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). Instant Payment Notifications sent to the following URL(s) are failing:

      http://www.sazoo.co.uk/cgi-bin/os000...POSTPROCESS=1&

If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information. If this problem continues, IPNs may be disabled for your account.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.

      Yours sincerely,

      PayPal

Its a little intimidating as I did not contact them and they say my IPN notification may be disabled. I was the first user to contact Actinic regarding this IPN issue as I process a lot of Paypal payments and have been watching this thread for some time now but no one is closer to a solution. I will be amazed if this is anything to do with Actinic as I would presume any change to their software comes in a new release and as I have been on the same version for some time (V10.0.2 Business Plus) then it does not take a rocket scientist to work out that the only common factor is PAYPAL!

          Hi All,

Regarding the email from PayPal regarding IPN settings, IPN does not need to be enabled. Our QA departments PayPal accounts have IPN disabled and their orders download into Pending as normal. In response this this we have created a new KB article here: http://community.actinic.com/showthr...774#post307774.

We are still doing some testing with example merchant sites experiencing the problem to try and narrow down the cause. As soon as we have an update I will keep you posted

Nigel, there have been several posts here by Actinic staff, which I think does show that we have been reading this thread. As Yarko has observed, it's highly unlikely that Actinic is the immediate cause of the problem, because it has appeared suddenly in different Actinic versions running on systems that we don't have access to, and couldn't change even if we wanted to.

All the same, because it involves our customers we are actually putting quite a lot of resource into trying to resolve it. Unfortunately it's a bit like trying to mend a car in someone else's garage that you don't have a key to, but I can assure you our team is doing its best, and we are very aware of the seriousness of the issue for those of you affected.

Just checking... wasn't sure that any notice had been taken of posts that say for example Net::SSL doesn't make any difference (which is the advice we've been given by tech support).

              Glad you're taking it seriously

I have bucketloads of clients biting my head off over this.

Any chance of an ETA on some sort of fix, even a kludge?

                anything at all?

Currently bailing out the same boat as you Gabe and wishing there was at least some indication of where the system is breaking down so that a resolution can be found!

Not the answer you'll want I know, but something you might want to consider if things get really bad is to move host.

                    AFAIK:

                    1&1 shared hosting: OK
                    Actinic hosting: OK

1&1 Virtual server: Not OK ( Nigel's ecostore is on a Virtual server* as he appears to have a centos OS).

Perhaps Actinic should make temporary server space available for affected customers until a solution is found. This would earn them a lot of goodwill and probably even some more hosting customers.

                    Mike

                    * edit: Confirmed by Nigel as Virtual Server rather than Dedicated.

...and yes, we already have IPN notifications disabled. That isn't the problem.

Here's something interesting, we've been having the same issue across our Actinic websites (v9.0.5 MU). We had to shutdown our primary dedicated server that hosts all our websites over the weekend due to some power systems maintenance. After the server came back up, paypal is now working as expected again.

                              Hi All,

Just to give you an update, our development team are now working on a script that should help them identify what has been changed at PayPal's end when they place a test order.

As soon as I have some more information I will keep you posted.
