    Google Checkout - Review

    Hi,

I don't know if this has been done before but i am looking for feedback from anyone using Google Checkout on their Actinic site.

Google claim an increase of 40% in conversions by implementing this.

Has anyone got any data about this?

I'm currently using SagePay (which has been a PITA lately, but that's another story) and looking to implement an alternative payment option.

    I'm using business plus v10.

    Any feedback welcome.
    Regards,

    Keith

If Google were saying that overall conversion increases by 40% (and I suspect that what they claim isn't quite this) then I would be absolutely flabbergasted if it was true.

The best second option to add is Paypal. This should increase orders and can also be a fall back PSP if your primary one fails. Just make sure your primary PSP is described as "Debit or credit card" and Paypal as "Paypal" to minimise costs.

Have you looked at Actinic Pyaments? Apart from the better integration into Actinic, it is based on Creditcall. Creditcall was PCI certified years ahead of the competition and in fact they were the first company in the world to achieve PCI DSS Level 1 accreditation in more than one region. Since 2005 it has been hugely reliable, with only a couple of short glitches over the five years.

I guess the 40% figure may have been taken from this page: http://checkout.google.com/seller/what.html

      Where they state:
When compared to non-Checkout users Google Checkout customers are 40% more likely to convert than a visitor that hasn't used the service before.

I have been using it but never reached the 40% mark (i wish)

Seriously, add paypal and GC, the more payment options has been reported to increase conversions. These are both free to sign up so in my book it is nothing wasted.

There are some other advantages with GC and this being the review systems built in, which is shown next to your base feeds and you get the GC badge against base feeds. Some might not see the need but for some of your customers out there who do not understand everything it comes across as an endorsment from google.

Try it and see what happens

All this is saying is that Google checkout users are more likely to buy than people who haven't used it.

In other words, they're more experienced, more confident online purchasers and are more likely to buy whether you're using Google Checkout or not.

It doesn't say that adding Google Checkout will increase conversions by 40%.

It is likely though that people who use Google Checkout will prefer to have that as a checkout option. The question has to be how many customers use it (probably less than 3-5% in the UK - although I have no specific figures) and what proportion of these won't buy from you if you don't have Google Checkout as an option (probably less than 20% in my view).
