One of the reasons for going through all this was to get a MOTO account for the occasional customer who refuses to pay via the internet. But, if it's going to cost me £10 a month, I'll have to think twice...
If it just for the occasional customer then don't bother with the separate moto account. Just put it through as an internet order via the virtual terminal.
It may be worth asking the FSB rep about the £10 charge when he calls, he might be able to get it dropped particularly if he thinks he might lose a sale.
No idea why they insist on sending someone round in person to discuss everything when many would be happy to sign up online, seems old fashioned, an expensive waste of money and annoying.
I seem to remember waiting around 1 week but don't remember clearly exactly how long I had to wait.

Actinic man says you need a MOTO account to use the Virtual Terminal
You could do what Mike is suggesting, without using a MOTO account, by placing the order the customer has given you yourself, on your own website. Just make sure that you do not retain the credit card details (securely shred). That would then go through your internet account, without needing a virtual terminal. Its not strictly legit, but would likely pass through unnoticed, and in reality, you are not doing anything less secure, than you would do if using a virtual terminal (although you would be in breach of your terms with the card company).
I've bitten the proverbial bullet and picked up both an eCommerce and Moto account. The Moto may not be hugely cost effective, but it's a service I really want to offer.
It's all up and running (with AP, which was up and running in just a few hours! Nice work, Actinic-peeps!).
Got it all on the site this morning and ran a test. It looks good.
