Payment methods that DONT require a merchant account?

Obviously Paypal being one of them, does anyone have a list of payment methods that do not require a merchant account?

    I dont want to use Paypal for a few reasons;

    1. Its daylight robbery.
    2. Anything ebay related I wont touch.

    Any ideas?

You could try 'NoChex', although the rates are not much better than Paypal.
They will also require you to keep a minimum amount of money held with them as protection against future chargebacks.

Oh yea! And Actinic supports this doesnt it?

This will also allow customers to make reviews that will show in SERPS? I think im sold by that!

Watch out for SSL requirements and note the level of back office integration. Plenty of threads on GC on the forum.

Worldpay and CardSave are 2 that I know of that integrate with Actinic and both come with merchant accounts included.
Cardsave, particularly, are very competitive in terms of the cost for setup vs WorldPay, if I recall.

I dislike PayPal with a passion, but is the point really not to make buying easy for customers, and like it of not many do prefer to use this method?

Exactly Mark, leaving off Paypal nowadays, no matter how you feel about them, is IMO really short sighted and a terrible decision. As a bare minimum they are a great backup PSP if your main one goes down. PSP + Paypal, all the way for me.

It's a bit difficult to run an online shop without a merchant account - I don't think you'll be regarded as a serious business if you can't take simply card payments without requiring people to sign up to a payment scheme such as google check out or no chex.

And then there are those that like paypal - reasons are varied but it does work.

As others have said, it's about the customer getting their money to you in the easiest way possible.

You can also take bank transfers, cheque etc.

Just my two penn'orth, but I ran without a Merchant account for a few years. My business increased exponentially when I took on a merchant account, more than making up for the cost (I went the FSB/Streamline route) BUT I would say that about half my customers choose to pay with paypal. In fact, I choose to pay with paypal, given the choice. I'm not saying I won't shop with someone that doesn't have paypal as an option, but I do a little dance when they do.

Retail is about keeping the customer happy, not yourself, I'm afraid.

I've never looked in to getting a merchant account, wouldn't even know where to start. Google I guess.

Are there any payment methods I can use through Actinics checkout just for the time being? Paypal express works well but it uses its own button and renders the Actinic checkout useless if you dont have any other options.

I totally hear what your saying though people.

Why do you think it improved sales then, having a merchant account PatchworkRabbit?
