SEO and Popup Pages

There's some stuff in the Startup Guide about changing the page names for sections to make them meaningful to search engines. Is it worth doing the same for the extended information pages rather than keeping the default page names?

if you think about it you dont really want populs indexed so the answer is no. This has been discussed before so searching should provide more discussions on the subject

Google has indexed some of my extended info pages (opens in the same window). As there is no navigation facility in the extended info area (V9.0.2), If someone lands on it, there is nothing they can do- any suggestions on this, please?

It is worth putting a "home" link on extended info pages. Switch to design tab, click on the extended link and it previews... you can then add a simple <a href="n"> link in the HTML

Bin them and use them for what they were designed for - they are useless for SEO

As Lee says, why not use the same layout in your extended info pages.

Hi all, I've done something very similar by using my outer layout around each popup and having popups set to open in the same page - result = seamless user expereience and signs of a really nice site.

HOWEVER!

As the extended info page contains all the detail for each of my products I'd like to have more meaningful description and keywords tags but can't find anyway to do this. Currently they are fed by the products homepage rather than the sub-section that they are in.

Could anyone advise please? sure this is relevant to the above post too - if anyon goes down this route they are sure to be asking similar question in time, especially in relation to SEO.

Any pointers would be very much appreciated.

The way that I did this was to use a template for a particular group of products and add keywords and meta details based around say a dozen products. I do have a lot of different layouts but each is very different and customized to that product group.

For example this layout was used for our Silver Sweetie Bracelets whilst this one was used for our Kit Heath silver jewellery.

You will see that both are completely different and allow for different images and information to be shown, if you check the source code you will see that meta details and keywords can be configured to each product as well.

Thanks for all feedback - I have looked all over around page 24 V9 AUG - can't find any ref to extended info layouts

Maybe it's time for a new pair of specs........seems to be info about snapshots, etc ....??

It's page 81 of the V9 guide. I was using the 'Name and info text displayed below image' layout so I had to modify the 'Includes add to cart button' layout a bit further after doing the changes in the AUG.

What's the best way to deal with the meta tags then? As a previous poster says, they default to the sites ones.

Can't you use the 'title' variable as a meta tag or something? It's a long time since we ditched ext info for SPP but I did get the meta title and description working OK when we had it.

Best advice is to not go down this route though. At some point you will need to spend 2 months restructuring the whole site to do it properly. Go for product per section if you want SPP. If you don't want SPP then just create really good sections and have ext info for photos etc.
