    javascript and seo

    Just a quick question....

We're working on being able to sort products by price, pack size, brand, etc.

We're using javascript to change the order of the page. If a customer doesn't have javascript enabled they will get the default page layout where the products are in the order we've set.

If they have javascript enabled they can sort by the various options.

We use a single product page layout with all the products from the section being in the root section. It is the products in the root section that will be sorted.

we're not using javascript to input any data, only change the order of data on the page.

How will Google look at this? If google excludes the javascript they'll get the default layout.

    thanks

You ought to be OK. Google should index the default page and ignore the rest. I wouldn't be surprised if Google can read the javascript, but there shouldn't be anything there to bother them. If there's anything about the technique they don't like then I'd expect the page to be flagged for manual review. As long as you're not doing anything wrong you should be OK.

One way to check is to look at Googles cached version of the webpage and select the 'text only' option. As long as that page looks OK there's a good chance that Google will be OK with it.

On the other hand, if the cached text page shows every layout variation then you're going to get viewed as black-hat and will probably be banned. So make sure the technique you're using is appropriate.

      thanks for the reply

I was pretty sure it was ok, but just wanted to get a second opinion on it just in case.

      thanks
