    Catalogue structure and SEO

Having quickly trawled through a few of the previous posts, I'm not sure there is a definitive answer to this.

I am trying to create a site that can be easily navigated by the end user, but at the same time allow all products to be found by the search engines.
We sell new and used parts for many models of car.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of having many products listed under one section, or, is it better to have a few products listed under sub sections.

I'll try and illustrate this below :-

    Like this:-
    Car 1 Section
    ---------------Sub Section 1
    ----------------------------Product q
    ----------------------------Product w
    ----------------------------Product e
    ----------------------------Product r
    ----------------------------Product y
    ----------------------------Product u
    ----------------------------Product i
    ----------------------------Product o
    --------------Sub Section 2
    ----------------------------Product a
    ----------------------------Product s
    ----------------------------Product d
    ----------------------------Product f
    ----------------------------Product g
    ----------------------------Product h
    ----------------------------Product j
    ----------------------------Product k

    or like this ? :-
    Car 1 Section
    ---------------Sub Section 1
    -------------------Sub Section Z
    ----------------------------Product q
    ----------------------------Product w
    ----------------------------Product e
    ----------------------------Product r
    -------------------Sub Section X
    ----------------------------Product y
    ----------------------------Product u
    ----------------------------Product i
    -------------------Sub Section C
    ----------------------------Product o
    --------------Sub Section 2
    -------------------Sub Section V
    ----------------------------Product a
    ----------------------------Product s
    ----------------------------Product d
    -------------------Sub Section B
    ----------------------------Product f
    ----------------------------Product g
    ----------------------------Product h
    -------------------Sub Section N
    ----------------------------Product j
    ----------------------------Product k

Do what makes sense for your customer. As long as you put good content on your pages and get some good links for your site then the search engines will index it OK.

There is a more detailed answer and you can make this as complicated as you want it, but then you're going to need to do a lot of reading around the subject and decide what makes the most sense for you.

www.yoursite.co.uk/acatalog/sitemap.html - it is already in existence, you just need to link to it on your pages.
