    Google placement

    Hi Folks,
I've been away from the web for sometime and it shows, I desperatley need advise regarding SEO with my site, it's performing very poorly and getting little trafic, there's obviously serious problems, but what are they, and what do I need to do to correct them.
When I checked google toolbox it informs me of a problem with the actinic generated sitemap 'Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.' what is the problem with that?
I'm using Actinic Developer V.7.0.7.0.0.0.HCFA please dont let the fact it's developer fool anyone into thinking I've much knowledge of web design and html, I haven't. If you choose to reply, please keep it simple and in english

    Thanks in advance, Peter

Actinic doesn't actually generate a Sitemap in this context, the toolbox (if i'm correct in thinking this is the same as the Google Webmaster Dashboard) is looking for an xml document and not the sitemap.html page - there are lots of threads regarding xml sitemaps and the difference between that and the user friendly sitemap

Your site does need some work, but it's all been discussed on the forum lots of times and I'd suggest you either search and read or pay someone for advice.

There is no quick fix but a slow consistant process over time.
I would remove your email address or at least put it in as an image or you will get loads of spam in time.

I would start with your page title ensuring that the contants are also on your page.
Get rid of the spelling mistakes in your meta tags ie keywords & description.

Build up your links back to your site over time by encouraging others to link to you and likewise but keep them relevant to your business.

Setup an account with addwords or search for a keyword tool to find the real words that a customer would search for as loads of buzz words are not necessarily what customers type in.
I beleive less is more but that is just a matter of opinion.
An example would be one of our sites www.freeyourmobile.com which I use to entice customers in for example dual sim phone will come up top, have a look where it is on page ect.
And the actinic site which we use as the shop is 10th on top 10 there is a message in that itself.
I would also focus your time on other search engines such as Yahoo, MSN ect and google would normally follow.
In experience it is the contant of the page that is most relevant and how informative it is to be perceived.
I am no expert but have learnt some tricks through mistakes over the years.

Sorry to ramble but hope that helps a bit.

If any of your products are hard to spell it may be worth leaving some wrong spellings somewhere, we do it with a few brands and one in particluar brings as many visitors as the correct spelling.
