    what do you do...

when a site has page 1 natural listings for product keywords, and is the cheapest.. but still doesn't get many sales?

I have a site in this situation but can not disclose it... so general thoughts please.

As they say, SEO gets them there, design keeps them there.

I'd guess at it looking quite crap/dated for its marketplace and also lacking some key customer confidence messages and product details.

PS - check that there is a market for the products, it may be maxing out in an area where few sales occur.

maybe that sector is being particularity hit with the downturn.
      too much competition
delivery charge might be high compared to competition
might be cheap but do they have the full range of items competitors have
do others sites have any special promotions running
      best of luck

        Thanks for this....

my suspicion is that its a saturated market, as they have dropped a couple of suppliers recently who are over supplying the market. Couple with the fact there are too many cheap copies available in supermarkets/garages.

question - how to get rid of stock?

It would have to be the online car boot sale for me.

Email campaign to existing customers at massively reduced prices along with an incentive if they buy to include a coupon code with their order for future use on the site. You can clear the crud and hopefully retain their custom (site and product dependant)

You don't say whether you're seeing many visitors coming from Google to the site, ie is the problem that people are not clicking through from Google, or are they clicking through and just not buying?

How popular are the keywords that the site has page 1 listings for?
