    Actinic:Template and friends showing up in Google results

    Hi,

    We've noticed that recently some search results to our website are showing stuff like this:-

    Epson T1005 / T0715 / T0895 Compatible - Set of Four - Projet ...
    template> :<actinicDisk Depot ->template> :<actinictemplate> :<actinictemplate> :<actinictemplate> :<actinic Ink and Toner ->template> :<actinictemplate> :<actinictemplate> :<actinictemplate> :<actinic Ink ->template> :<actinictemplate> :<actinictemplate> :<actinictemplate> :<actinic Epson ->template> :<actinictemplate> :<actinictemplate> :<actinictemplate> :<actinic ... Epson T0715 and T0895 Compatible Ink Set of Four - Cheetah/Leopard - v7 - Black, Cyan, ...

    For the query

    diskdepot t0715

    (See here for the actual query result)

    It doesn't happen for all queries, but the point is that the Actinic template stuff is showing up. Is anyone aware of this affecting ranking within Google, in addition to the obvious problem of us not looking as good (nor as helpful) within the search results?

    Tick the box telling Actinic to 'compact' HTML and it will strip out all the template info and code comments to produce cleaner html files. Your pages will load faster too.

      Thanks for the feedback.

      IIRC we turned that option off due to Google optimisation issues. IIRC (again) it was something to do with the fact that it removed some (or all) of the line breaks within the HTML file itself, and that Google only read a certain amount for any given line of HTML, hence having all the content on one- or few- HTML lines was damaging.

      Also, this wasn't a problem before- it's strange that Google is showing up the content of these tags, as even though they're not valid HTML, they're still obviously meant to be XML-style tags and it would seem to make sense to ignore them.
