    Is this a Scam email

Text of Email below with personal details obscured
    "Hello,

We're writing to let you know that you have just lost your website URL claim in your Google Merchant Center account (Account ID: ######),
    for the following website URL:

    http://www.myaddress.co.uk

You have lost your website URL claim because the Google Account associated with this Merchant Center acccount is no longer verified in Webmaster Tools.

Any data feeds submitted to your Google Merchant Center account that link to pages under the above URL will be automatically disapproved and the uploaded products will
not appear in Google Product Search or other Google services.

If you would like to continue submitting products you'll need to first verify your ownership of this URL in Google Webmaster Tools, and then visit Google Merchant Center to re-claim the URL.
Learn how to verify and claim a URL at
    http://www.google.com/support/mercha...&answer=176793

    Sincerely,

    The Google Team
    "

well, I guess you can check if it's real or a scam by logging into your webmaster tools.
Is the account number the correct one?

Have you recently upgraded your site? and forgotten to re-add in the Google verification code in your head area? It's easily done

Log into your webmaster tools area and see what's what

I thought that the verification was a one off thing and that it could be removed afterwards - maybe I thought wrong.

Seems genuine enough. From the linked page:

Ways you might lose your claim

If another authorized owner of the website in question successfully verifies and claims the website URL, you will lose the claim and will be notified by email. We'll let you know who the clashing account is (you can also find this information in your Google Webmaster tools account) in order to resolve the situation yourself, where possible. If unsuccessful, you can choose to either verify and claim a different URL or contact us.

If you lose your 'verified' status in Google Webmaster Tools, you will lose the claim. You can lose the 'verified' status because the identifying Meta tag or HTML file has been removed from the website. If you've lost your 'verified' status in Google Webmaster tools, you will need to verify and claim your website URL again.

If you choose to verify and claim a different URL in Google Merchant Center, you will lose the claim for your previously verified and claimed website URL.

Cheers, it was genuine, logged in, DOH, and have now verified, you just get so suspicious of anything that you have to click in an email.

And that proves that I was wrong and it does need to stay put.

We had to re-verify last week after upgrading to v10. Took me aback a little, but hopefully I will remember to do it next time without a warning.

You're probably mixing up with the html file that is a one off technically as you upload it and leave it there. I think they check the meta tag when you upload a feed for instance.

Hi thanks for the replies, my problem I think stems from using a new theme, possibly something Actinic could look into, you know a box that takes the tag and stays constant with your site.

It would do that Steve if you added the META tag into the MetaTags layout, as you've added it into the overall layout, there is no way it could ever really do that. Move it now and you will never suffer it again. Look in the <HEAD> area of your overall layout you will see the metatags selector (pink underlined).
