Can anyone recommend a good SEO company that has got really good results for their website? I get endless SEO emails and calls so I am looking for a reliable recommendation. I am looking for an ongoing SEO partner. Thanks Geraldine

I can change the clutch on my car by reading the haynes manual and articles on forms and blogs. Doesn't necessarily mean I can do a proper job or have the time to do it.

You really needed SEC (service engine clutch) not SEO then

you can do it yourself through reading blogs like SEOMoz or SEO Journal or SEO Andy or SEO Book etc

My advice would be to contact someone like SEO Andy and just ask for some advice if you get stuck, or join the conversation in another business forum about seo to get some advice if you need it. If things get too technical then ask them to be your consultant and pay them by the hour.
