I Think that if G are going to charge then they should move the link to "shopping" back in view on it's homepage, this has a huge affect on traffic, almost halving when they moved it out of view.
Bottom line for me is if they charge and leave the link hidden in the drop down, were out, if it gets put in a prominent place again, well see how it goes (cost dependant)

Maybe it's just the way I search.
I always search from the browser search box rather than going to google first. Then I refine the results using the 'shopping' link when I need to.
