    Communication between order processing department and shipping department

    Hi everybody,

    We are in the process of designing an actinic store for a client. The client his a medium sized company with separate departments. The company has an "order processing" department (who have actinic and recieve the orders, check the credit card details are okay etc.) and a "shipping" department (who actually pack and ship out the order).

    We're trying to come up with the easiest process possible whereby the Order Processing Deparment can inform the Shipping Department of an order being placed and what they would need to pack. So far the easiest way I have found is by using the "Mail" feature underneath "Line Items" to send them a copy of the order to pack.

    Is this the easiest way, or is there an automated feature in Actinic so that when the order is marked as "payment recieved" and verified Actinic can fire off an e-mail to an e-mail address saying "ship this order please"?

      There are several systems available to let different people view and process the order, the most complete is Actinic multiuser, which in effect gives everyone full access to the Actinic order processing, you could install this in both locations and sort on % shipped, that was the fully shipped items would appear at the top of the order list ready for shipping. The packing department could also then complete the required process (unship out of stock items for example) and move the order into completed.

      It integrates with several carriers and so might be very useful in packing.

      If you want to stick with a single user version of Actinic, the simplest thing might be to just install a printer on the network and put in the warehouse (or print to a fax if there locations are not the same), then the order processing department can just print the orders that you want packed to this printer, you can also send out emails with Actinic, so your order processing department could send an email to the 'customer' but actually change the email address to one for your purchasing department instead.
