    Please expalin Shipping Quantity

Can someone please explain the Shipping Quantity for me.

My shipping is based on weight and the products are quoted per metre. I my "weight in kg" field I have 0.07, i.e. 0.07kg per meter.

However, some of my products are in coils of 30 metres. So - my weight in kg is 0.07 but the product is sold in 30m lengths. When one item is added to the basket is needs to weigh 30 * 0.07. In "Shipping Quantity" I have 30 but it doesn't appear to adding the weights up properly.

    Can anyone help?

Unless they are adding 30 instances of the product, how can it know to multiply them? If it is a 30 metre coil and sold as such, you need to put in the weight of the full 30 metre coil.

My brian was hurting there and thought I was missing something but Lee confirmed my thoughts - the 30 m coil is a single product so you need to use its weight NOT the metre length of the other products.

Getting confused now loading my ipod for my holidays

So what is purpose of "Shipping Quantity"?

I should add that I would like to somehow keep the weight in kg/mtr. (For some reason people in the world of hose like to know weight in kg per metre).

        Thanks

To denote how many products you are sending, if that product is 3000m long or 1mm long, it is still only one product. 'Quantity' not 'length' or 'weight'.

Put the weight of the whole 30 metre roll in or sell it by the metre with the weight of one metre added as the weight. All you cannot do is sell 30 metres together, but have 1m in as the weight. What are you not understanding? Either sell it as 0.07kg per metre and they select the number of metres they want or sell it as a 30metre length that is 2.1kg in weight.

This could be added as a product scoped variable. You can then add it to the product layout in any way you wish. It could be then be availbale for you to enter a value against within the product properties.

You can simply add the weight / metre into the product description (or via a variable etc) to show the break down ... the weight of the product is for 1 item.

Norman does have a plug-in which he has used to calculate lengths etc and may be worth checking out.
