English Counties featuring in N Irish Zone

This has been an annoyance of mine for some time, and I'm finally trying to get to the bottom of it, but I'm afraid I need help as I must be overlooking something rather simple!

I have my shipping charges setup by zone/class, and am happy with the setup, but when a customer selects his country, at checkout, he is presented with ALL of the counties whether relevant to his country or otherwise.

To illustrate the problem I have, let's use the UK mainland and Northern Ireland Zones.

I have input the country into the country tables, and the counties into the state/province tables, (Ie Settings|Locations|Country|States/Provinces) and allocated these counties to the relevant country. (Ie Business settings|Shipping & andling|Zone/Class tables|Properties.)

eg Wiltshire is allocated to UK mainland, and Antrim is allocated to Northern Ireland etc.

So, a customer in Northern Ireland should, in theory, only be presented with the 6 choices relevant to their country (shipping zone), but instead are presented with ALL of the UK's counties.

I hope that this makes sense. Whatsmore I hope that someone can help me make sense of this.

    Thanks in advance.

Why not get rid of the counties completely? Looking at your site, it would cost me the same (£1.70 on the item I picked) whether I had it sent to an address in Co. Antrim, N. Ireland, Shetland, or Hertfordshire on the English mainland.

      You picked a light item!

If it's heavy it doesn't cost £1.70. There are many areas in the UK that are surcharged, and a 3kg parcel by carrier to to Caithness is considerably more expensive than the same parcel using the same service to Cornwall.

I need it broken down by County to ensure that these surcharged areas can be covered adequately.

Not sure who you use for shipping, but with our courier there are only two rates - most of the mainland and Highlands and Islands, which includes NI and Isle of Man.
        Thus, only two choices needed.
For Royal Mail, the charges are uniform IIRC.

(Channel islands are considered Europe tho!)

Fair enough. But it does seem overly complicated imo and tbh, trying to find my county and deciding whether I should put London or something else (Harrow has its own postcode) would put me off completing the purchase.

It's not overcomplicated, we all know what county we live in!

But, customers from England aren't interested in Co Fermanagh, and vice versa, I'm trying to establish why Actinic is not differentiating which county is alllied to which Zone, especially as I've given it all of the information that it needs.

I'm not really in the market of discussing carrier, and shipping options, I'm more than happy with them, I just want to gain an understanding of why, when a certain zone is selected Actinic chooses to display counties (States) that are not relevant to that zone.

I'd also love an answer to this one if anyone has one...Can't for the life of me work out why Actinic would show States or Counties from outside the selected zone...I'm in Aus and have just set up each State with a breakdown of areas within the State...and was amazed when I tested it to see Actinic showing all the options for all the States regardless of the State selected...This has to be a bug surely? Any work arounds would be appreciated as I've tried all I can find to no avail

I think that all states are always shown, not just those relevant to the currently selected country. This is probably something to add to the wishlist.

If this is true it should be on the bug list not wishlist.

I think the issue is that the customer gets both dropdowns at once and the second doesn't change dynamically to reflect the choice in the first.
You'd think, given how much this has come up over years, it would have been changed by now

Given that it can be done quite easily in Javascript, I am surprised it hasn't been done yet.

Just adding it to the wishlist now

...Although from the link above it doesn't look too complicated...Just wish I was a programmer so I could pull something together...Anyone out there want to write it and sell it?

In fact it can't be too complicated because I just went in to manually add a new order and when I select the State it then only offers me appropriate locations within the State. So there is already software within Actinic to do this - so why not on the live site?

Because the live site would have to update the page dynamically and actinic has historically avoided dynamic stuff.

I seem to remember reading that the checkout process was going to be addressed in the next version. I'm sure this will be part of that.
