    Free Shipping for UK only

I am looking for some advise on how I should be setting up free shipping to UK mainland addresses when spending over £60.

I am using weight based shipping and have a "Mainland UK" zone set-up.
Most orders over £60 will be sent by Courier, but would like the option to send using a different method of my choosing on occasions.
Ideally when a customer spends over £60 and has selected Mainland UK as the zone I would like the cheapest option just
to say 'Free Shipping' or 'Std Shipping': £0.00

I can set-up free shipping on a single class/zone without problem.

I have tried setting up a class called "FREE Shipping" and ticking the 'Orders in This Zone/Class Free Over' box,
but the problem I get with this method is that I need to enter a cost for orders less than £60.
I can enter a high value to ensure it appears at the bottom of the list but would still appear as
FREE Shipping : £100 for orders under £60 which looks poor.

Unless I have missed something simple I suspect this is something that cannot be done and will just settle for having "Courier" as the free shipping class.

    Hi Darren

Perhaps you could use the Free Shipping option in the Properties dialog,i.e, right-click either on a newly-created shipping class or existing one, and select Properties. You will find a check-box that says Free shipping. You can also choose to make this appear at the bottom of the list.
    Hope this helps.

All sounds a little complicated, simplify things. Have standard shipping and express shipping and have a delivery page which details what you do for each of these services and what you might also do if a better service is available.

Standard shipping will show as free when it reaches the threshold and express shipping can show its relative cost. You are not specifying what service they will get exactly when free, you are showing costs clearly when applicable and offering a choice.

An area to keep real simple IMO and have a page clearly laying out what you do on delivery and returns etc.

You are not going to get a service to change name dynamically.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I will keep with the current set-up for now but I agree with your comments Lee regarding keeping it simple, I think I have far too many shipping options.

I am planning to go live with the V9 redesign on 1st July so will take a look at simplfying the shipping options once everything is up and running smoothly.
If I make a major change to the shipping options now I will let the relaunch date slip again and will still be stuck with the V7 LE design and limitations until i'm 80.

Expect a request for a site review in the next few days.

TBH it might be better to simplify the shipping pre launch, if people are confused by the options they may well duck out of the checkout.

Here is a link to the currently proposed shipping charges:

My current V7 site is UK only but the V9 relaunch will also offer international shipping.

I'd have to agree with Croccy, a delayed launch is much better than a rushed and unfinished or confusing one. Shipping really is a 30 minutes job to setup at most nowadays, if you are spending more than that, then your shipping is generally too complicated IMO.

You have got to be kidding, no way Jose. That's just scarey to look at and certainly not user friendly IMO. Fair play for the detail but seriously, that needs addressing.

Changing the shipping settings in Actinic should not take long, but it will take me a lot longer redesigning the html tables displaying the prices and checking that I have not broken the page design.
I will take a look tonight where I can best simplify the shipping charges while still offering a choice.

The consensus of opinion is clear, so changes before launch it is.

And only took 12 months to finish it. I won't be offering my servcies as a Actinic designer anytime soon, as at one site per year the annual income would be a little on the low side.

The sensible option would probably been to have hired a designer 12 months ago and gone live a long time ago, but that's not my style.
At least I know now what a cascading style sheet is (something that was a bit of a mystery 12 months ago), even if some of the code is probably far from perfect and at least a more stable version of actinic is available.

                        Free shipping on V7

I am still running version 7 and have the problem of having free UK mainland shipping on orders over £70. I have tried setting up a new shipping class clearly labelled "Free shipping UK mainland orders over £70.00" but all my customers select this as their option irrespective of their order value. From responses newer versions may cater for this but from bitter past experience upgrading to newer versions will give me months of hassle trying to get everything to work again. My idea of an upgrade is not spending weeks on the telephone to support to get my site working the way it was before I upgraded!

                          Hi John,

I had exactly the same problem on V7, but changed to shipping by value and then put say £70 shipping £0 in UK mainland only.

V9 is a lot better in this respect but it takes time getting there!

I thought that might be the case but with over 2000 items of varying weights and values it would not really be an ideal solution. Perhaps I have to bite the bullet and upgrade - shame Actinic do not appear to offer upgrade prices and with 2 separate sites this will mean 2 copies at nearly £400 each!!!!!!

                            Thanks for your response.

Buy business plus instead and assign a default weight to catch most of your products, if you do that, it's much less of a job.
