    Handling Fee

    Hi All
First Post seems to have gone adrift..... so i'll give it another go

I wanted to know if it was possible to exclude handling fee from a single item. i have a blanket fee of £1 but also have an item that should not incur it, i have searched till I'm blue and cannot find the answer, any ideas?
    Many thanks
    Regards

Not possible AFAIK, surely if you have a blanket handling charge, why not just add a £1 to the shipping cost? You can then adjust things accordingly for the product to be different.

If i ever saw £3 shipping plus £1 handling charge, i'd say bye bye.

If i saw £4 shipping, it'd be fine. Handling charges are just negative items, they offer nothing positive at all.

Handling fees i would say are mostly used to cover instances of when the item is returned through no reason other than just dont want it, but agree they are negative to most people these days (consumers), although a place for them in B 2 B operations still for many.

Oooooooooh - could also be used to cover the WEEE side of things if renamed in sites that wanted to highlight that (if applic to them).

          Hi all
Thanks for replies, I suppose one of my real bug bears is people who charge a good price for stock then make the profit on the postage, and I know it really aggravates some people on certain auction sites, so I decided to be right fair with the postage so people got a true value of the item.
Another thing I suppose is that we are a charity and cannot make a good mark up on second hand stock or general pet stock to compete with big suppliers. Changing all the items to add individual handling would be too much and I happen to think people would think £1 is fair for jiffy bags or packaging for their item no
To you gurus then...could it be done with a block if? I’m dreading the answer

Not possible I am afraid, as a block if would not affect handling fees associated to a product, as it is not a design element you are attempting to change, but a functional element affecting a product, so would not work, sorry.

Is it the cost that you want £1 cheaper or the appearance in that you don't want a handling fee showing?

As far as i am concerned, people want to know the cost of a product and then the shipping cost. Those are the only two cost associations made, anything else and it's a negative vibe IMO. Your shipping might be as accurate as it possibly could be, but what's the point if you then add handling on anyway, that's a play on words. Give people one set cost and don't confuse things, it all sounds over thought. Keep it simple = more people happy.

Handling fee = I am charging you for the privelege of me serving you and doing my job.

I can fully understand the frustration at not being able to compete with the big boys, but a little savvy in taking lessons from what they do in this area is surely something you should be doing, can you name one that charges a handling fee?
