Use associated Product Shipping, bug...?

Is it normal for a product built purely of components, where the pricing model is to use that of the components and have no orderline for the main product... when use associated product shipping is not ticked in any component...

...to just ignore you and use the components to calculate the shipping charge anyway? The main weights and handling in the product are being ignored and I guess becuse there's no orderline for the main product, but that's no good...

Ideas and suggestions?

Let me find the thread and see if I can remember if I found a fix/workaround or not.
Which version are you using?

ok HERE is my initial observation of this.

Only problem is, I can't recall if I found a fix for it.
Are the component products available separately too?

If they're not, you could check the "exclude from shipping band calculation" box for the component products?
If they are also available separately (as mine were) it is more complicated.
How is the shipping set up?
