associated product no charge shipping

Hi guys.
Is it possible to have a a product set up for standard shipping charges when ordered by itself, but when ordered an an associated product, to go no charge shipping, because the freight charged on the primary item (shipping on a pallet by truck) is not increased by adding the associated product.

It doesn't jump out of me how this can be done, but it probably can be with a bit of experimenting.

I suggest that you start by looking at the main help, then select: Product Options | Making customer selection effect price and Stock Level, then look at the description against "Shipping from associated product" and follow the links to descriptions about shipping charges.

One way may be, if you have pallet based products and then smaller products, to effectively segment your shipping table in two by having all of the pallet based products have a "weight" in the thousands and all the smaller products have "weight" in the ones to tens.

The if you ship a pallet and a smaller product, it won't change the shipping for the smaller product as the "weight" of the pallet will overwhelm the smaller one such that it won't move the charge up a band.

If you have a consignment just with the smaller products, you pick up the shipping cost from a completeley different part of the shipping table.

Hope that makes some sort of sense. It's not easy to get one's head around complex shipping options but most things can be achieved with a bit of playing around.

Solving this is usually about flexibility in your tiers, typical example:

2 products A + B

A = 1000kg
B = 10Kg

(remembering that you can insert whatever weights you want to make the system work for you, it's not all about what the product weighs on the scales, as long as you charge accordingly)

If B was to be bought on either its own or in multiples, you need shipping tiers to cater for that on the 10Kg scale. On product A, just because it is 1000kg, that does not mean you have to set the tier at 1000Kg (remember tier value are 'up to' values), imagine if you set that tier at 1010Kg or 1100Kg, that would allow a purchase of A+B at just what A costs.

10Kg - £4.95
100Kg - £8.95
1100Kg - £12.95

Would work for instance, use that logic to cater for your products.
