Royal Mail Postage Costs

Hi All,

I'm struggling to set up Actinic (V9) to accomadate the new price increses at Royal Mail. I Sell pre-owned items that can be sent via Large Letter, but also new items that are sent as Small Packets (due to size of packaging), and the difference between the two is pretty vast. Is there a way of setting up a standard postage costs with a set value being added to this if they buy from a certain category?

example :

a pre-owned part for £3 can be sent Large Letter for £1 postage, if they also buy a new model at £4 it needs to be sent Small Packet at an additional £2 postage for £3 postage.

Either add the extra postage under Details/Shipping Supplement for the "new" product, or put the price of the "new" product up.

or use shipping by weight. With a bit of thought you can set it so that specific combinations trigger the higher shipping price.

Would that set it per product they order or a flat rate anything from the new section? Weight wise theres virtually no difference, its only the size of packaging on new products thats triggering the postage costs, and its only for UK delivery.

That would set it per product.

By weight for one type and category based shipping for the other or as Mike alludes use by weight, but forget the actual real weight and use figures that allow you to manipulate things to suit. A typical example would be:

Large letter items 0-1Kg each
Small packet items 10-100Kg each

Then set shipping tables to cater for the various combinations you will encounter.

Because it is easy to know when a heavy item is in the mix, it's easy to set prices accordingly.

Ok, I've been tweaking, and I've set up brochure Categories to cover New and Pre-owned models, and in the shipping tab you can set up delivery costs by category, will this add to the set postage options or over right them?

Per Item will throw costs off if they order just 1 item or 100, I need a blanket cost added to cover the upgrade from large letter to small packet not the number of items or weight necassarily.

To get round this you can tick the box "Apply Shipping Supplement only once per order."

That sounds like it'll work.. do you know if that will cover every item in the order or just multiple orders of the same item?

Ok I tried this, and it adds the shipping supplement for each different item, so two new items adds £4, but 2 of the same item adds £2. And using the weight is an option but the database is huge, it would take me weeks to update each item to suit.

If I switched the shipping calculator to category rather than value, that would let me differentiate between new and pre-owned, but not weight/value right? So there would be just two postage costs, orders with new and orders without?

Or is there a way of using the existing postage costs but use the category shipping to take over if new items are bought?

You will need to get clever with weights, forget using category based shipping.

Remember that when using weights that Actinic will use the default weight if nothing else is specfied.

So set the default to the mass of items and then you'll just need to specify the exceptions.
