to run my site on a dedicated ssl, what would be the settings that i need to know. ( i know they vary but generally what do i need) , new ftp details etc?
Yes you would need new ftp details like username, password and server host. Different cgi bin folder as well as /acatalog/ and the ability to run perlscripts. Basically a new set of network settings
