    Catalog upload to easyspace

I would be extreamly grateful if anybody please help me with my upload to an easyspace hosted site. (I have the Platinum Hosting package that I upgarded to last week to enable me to set up my store)

When running the advanced Network setup test I get the following message.

The test script failed to execute on the web server. The error could be caused by several things. Check the path to the Perl shell, the CGI script extension, the path to CGI-BIN, and the CGI-BIN URL. This error could also occur if your web site is out of disk space or your web server is not configured to accept POSTs to CGI scripts.

I have checked the permissions for the folder and files are all 755

    My settings are

    Catalog URL = http://www.adventuretrail.co.uk/www/acatalog/

    CGI-BIN URL = http://www.adventuretrail.co.uk/cgi-bin/

    Codebase = ./

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog directory = ../www/acatalog/

    Path toCGI-BIN = /cgi-bin/

CGI Script ID number = 1

    Extension = .pl

    web site URL = http://www.adventuretrail.co.uk/

Path to the perl shell = /bin/perl

I can upload the site (although similar errors are reported) and see the main page but whenever I try and click on the products link it falls over.

I have spoken to easyspace but they have been unable to help.

    Kind Regards

    Paul B

hmmm. This extra /www/ look odd in the acatalog address but while

    http://www.adventuretrail.co.uk/cgi-...html&NOLOGIN=1

    doesn't work,

    http://www.adventuretrail.co.uk/www/...html&NOLOGIN=1

does seem to do something. It would appear that your cgi-bin is at /www/cgi-bin

All a bit odd to me, but maybe you can figure out why the extra www/ is needed. Is it intentional on your part?

      Thanks Mike,

      I have done some experimenting....

The index.htm file only gets picked up from the www directory

Without it I get a default page saying

If you are the website administrator:
You may now add content to the directory /var/www/html/. Note that until you do so, people visiting your website will see this page, and not your content. To prevent this page from ever being used, follow the instructions in the file /etc/httpd/conf.d/welcome.conf.

the cgi-bin directory is also definately in the root.

I have tried moving it to the www directory which causes the following message when running Test

Actinic is not able to run the CGI scripts on the server. It appears as if the scripts are not installed. The most likely cause is that you have an incorrect CGI-BIN URL. If you've never uploaded the site, then you should do it before a download of orders. If you've uploaded the site ever, then Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration.

      CGI-BIN URL = http://www.adventuretrail.co.uk/www/cgi-bin/

      Path to CGI-BIN = /www/cgi-bin/

Incidently when I attempt to upload the catalog I get the following error aswell

"An error occured while sending the merge request"

Have changed back to original configuration and still scratching my head.

      Thanks

      Paul

        Ok. Looking at your website.

set your catalog url to be: http://www.adventuretrail.co.uk/acatalog/

i.e. without the www/. From what I can thats an internal hosting path, not part of your url. (click the link top check it if you want to)

hopefully having sorted that out, actinic should be able to find cgi-bin.

You may need to try a few optiosn for the path to acatalog, bUt I'd think the wizard should work OK once you give it the correct catalog url.

Ok Seem to have found a solution although is a bit of a bodge at the moment.

First problem was perl directory it should be /usr/bin/perl

and not as stated on easyspaces directory /bin/perl

I think this may be to do with the easyspace / iomart comming together.

I also have to upload the catalog twice

First with Path From CGI-BIN to acatalog set as

          ../www/acatalog/

This causes an error on upload

I then have to repeat upload with Path From CGI-BIN to acatalog set as

          ../acatalog/

          The catalog then works fine

In both cases Catalog URL is

          http://www.adventuretrail.co.uk/acatalog/

I am also getting a problem with the software locking up on the upload.

But at least I am making progress!

Will post an update when I sort it!

          Thanks for help

          Paul

To prevent locking up when doing an upload you should try enabling passive ftp. This is the most common cause.
