Buying Actinic

Couple of questions before I buy - am thinking of buying Actinic Catalog V7.0 - what help is available from Actinic if there is a problem technically - I see you can take out some Actinic cover but do you really need this?

Secondly, are there any pitfalls in buying a V7.0 second hand on e-bay? I assume it wouldn't be registered with me at Actinic but does that really matter?

yes there are pitfalls buying second hand - you need to make sure that the copy can be re-registered in your name.

Actinic doesn't encourage the sale/re-sale of Actinic licenses, and in order to re-register in your name, they have to have assurances that the license isn't in use on another store simultaneously.

If your store ends up being a second concurrent user of the same license, there is definitely a concern - you risk all sorts of legal implications.

If the seller will get you the license key so that you can check if it can be re-registered, or provide you proof that it can be re-registered, I'd think it should be OK - without that, I'd not purchase a used Actinic license, or it could be shut down... there were also rumours (unconfirmed), that Actinic can remotely disable bootleg licenses or licenses that are being used illegally.... I have no knowledge if this is, or is not possible... just heard the rumour.

Hi,

I recently bought Actinic Developer v7 on eBay (absolutely nerve-wracking for the last few minutes when several people were all bidding like mad!). I checked with Actinic beforehand that it was a valid transaction and had the license registered in my name once I received the software without any problems. The eBay seller stated that the software had not been used. There have been some dodgy Actinic offerings on eBay recently, so it's probably wise to be cautious and talk to Actinic first before parting with any money.

Why not contact Actinic and see what help is available? I have found their response second to none.

I can highly recommend End Design [pricing information removed by moderator]. Their support system is also super and responses quick.
