    SSL and Clara

    Hi

Can anyone help on SSL setting for Clara.net as they are not being very helpfull after they sold me hosting and now tell me they dont support Actinic any more..... Must remember that one....

My site is up, and all the bits upload but the SSL on test comes up with the following error. What should I have in the boxes?

Your Catalog URL appears to be invalid. The files uploaded to the given 'Path from cgi-bin to acatalog directory', can not be downloaded via the browser on the given Catalog URL. These two access routes don't point to the same destination on the server.

Can some one help before I go and buy a 1&1 package!!

    Hi David

Please could you post the settings you are currently using for catalog and SSL, and we can then look over and suggest what needs changing.

As far as support goes, you should be looking to Actinic support first.
Hosting support isn't really about software set up IMHO.

    Hope we can help

      Hi

After a few cans of red bull I have now sorted the SSL.

Many thanks for looking to help me.

On the subject of support. I went with Clara.net because after many conversations they said they could support me with Actinic and they where the best people.......
Spot on sales man, must remember to hire him.

After we got going I am then told by Tec support that they no longer support Actinic and you are on ya own.

I spoke to Actinic and they told me to talk to Clara.net as its a server problem.

        Actinic & Clara

        Hi

I just checked the ClaraNet website and they are still advertising packages for sale including either Actinic Catalog 7 or Business 7

So they shouldnt say they dont support it - I would ask for the supervisor and complain.

I have my hosting with clara and they had better not stop supporting Actinic or they will find the contract cancelled as that was the main selling feature.

Good Luck - I will talk to my Account Manager to see if I can get a straight answer.

Sorry to hear you had the runabout David.
          We are with Claranet.
Whilst we have issues with them (and I think its fair to say most people have issues with their hosts at one time or another), I am totally unaware of them not supporting Actinic.
What I will say is that I don't think you should expect too much support from a host unless you are paying for it.
I would liken it to buying a computer. You'd expect support to help you if the hardware breaks down, and initially to help with the operating system, but it would be going beyond the call of duty to provide support for every piece of software you loaded up.
I would have expected them to provide answers to the qusetions your supposed to fire at them for setting up your catalog (as fas as I remember my setup a few yaers back, Actinic provide a list of questions your supposed to zip off to the host, to give you the settings needed to set the network settings).
Hope things go a bit smoother from here on in.

ps. yup, you'll never usually find any trouble getting through to, or getting answers from the sales guy at most companies. Support isn't always as accomodating, although I've never had any problem getting through to the Clara support desk (just make sure you use the business no).

            Hi Jane
Picking up on you having an account manager, am I right in assuming you have a dedicated server with Claranet?
As we are currently looking into this option, moving up from shared hosting to dedicated, I'd be intetested in your experiences if this is so.

            Many thanks

VIA/Clara thought it was funny to shut down our DNS on Monday, due to an outstanding balance that doesnt exist!

out site was down on the majority of ISPs for 12 hours and out mail was gettin bounced!

              Could have crippled us!

They have seriously gone down in my estimations!

We dont have a dedicated server with Clara - just a business host/asdl package but they are fairly helpful and we get business technical support
which might make a difference to what they will answer questions on

The minimum hosting spec with CLARA to enable a Actinic site to be run will get everyone Business Support as standard.

As for the OP the following settings in the SSL tab should work with CLARA:

                  Catalog URL : https://clarahost.clara.net/www.domain.co.uk/acatalog/

                  CGI-BIN URL : https://clarahost.clara.net/www.domaine.co.uk/cgi-bin/

                  Codebase : ./

Path from CGI-BIN to acatalog directory : ../acatalog/

                  HTH

Also under View | Business Settings | Payment and Security ensure the box is ticked at the bottom next to SSL and sue against Checkout and Login pages only

I've had similiar problems over the years, almost every year they forget to renew my ssl. Site has been down for several days in the last year. I have also got a site with 4surehosting who although they have had a few problems will answer an email at 10:30 on a sunday. I have never waited more than 20mins for an email reply and when I get the reply it is written by someone who knows what they are talking about.

I had a confirmation email from 4surehosting with the actinic settings that worked first time.

Although clara aren't the worst. IMHO 4surehosting are superb and I've been dealing with both for several years. I have no interest in either company apart from being a customer of both of them - no contest 4surehosting every time.

Clara rarely answer emails and the first line support is lacking, second line takes a while to get through and often don't give the right answers (4 attempts over 2 weeks to get a correct ip address) then 20 mins for 4surehosting to implement!

No contest - 4surehosting wins every time.

Note: I am changing to 4surehosting but it's not a 5 mins job.

                        1&1 don't support Actinic

                        Dear David,

I have five websites hosted on 1&1 and 4 (and counting) e-shops hosted on Pinbrook Hosting, 1 e-shop hosted on Internetters.

Originally I wanted everything in one place, you can imagine!, but when I asked 1&1 to change the CGI_BIN settings to allow the read/write stuff within Actinic to work they said:

Sorry we don't do that, we only support our own e-shops.

I mean the guy at the call centre might have been having a bad day because, quite a few people seem to use 1&1 here, but needless to say I went ot Pinbrrok.

Oh and don't touch Internetters, they are hopeless!

VIA/Clara really dont know their arses from their elbows, they are shocking, we pay aloit of money for a dedicated server, and all they do is blame actinic or give you a 'fix' that they know will take a long time and fob you off with that. They give you ticket numbers that don't even exist and cut you off at five to 6 because they want to go home. I want to effing go home too, but if you dont sort it out I cant!

                          Lol sorry for ranting!

I recently changed our SSL host to tchno-web who hang about on here and the level of service I get from them is outstanding, they really go out of their way to help you. I reckon that their hosting would be second to none also.
